 February 6  Tickets are now on sale for the United We Dance to Cure ALS Zumbathon charity event, a dance fitness party that will be held February 25th.   Tickets can be purchased from Sara Northam during her Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night zumba classes from 6p - 7p. Cost of the tickets are $25.

 February 6  The Tidewater Camera Club is sponsoring professional photographer, Nikhil Bahl, who will present a seminar entitled "Creative Interpretations" from 7-9 pm in the Wye Oak Room at the Talbot County Community Center, Rte. 50, Easton. Nikhil Bahl is a professional nature photographer, educator, author, lecturer and workshop instructor.

February 6  The Federalsburg Boy Scout Troop 137 is now taking orders for the 4th Annual Mulch Sale.  February 7  Ever wanted to learn how to tap dance? Enroll in  Beginning and Beyond Beginner Tap for Adults--taught by Sharon Gilroy. February 8  The Adkins Aboretum (AR-bore-Eat-um) will offer an Introduction to Backyard Hobby Farming from 1–2:30 p.m. with  Robyn Affron. Learn about establishing gardens that create habitat for wildlife and food for your family. Subsequent sessions in this three-part backyard hobby farming series will be offered June 6 and Sept. 22. February 9  Come and hear Jennifer Hulll Dorsey, who follows a generation of freed African Americans in the early 19th century. These families created free communities in the middle of slavery here on the Eastern Shore. A fascinating topic that is not to be missed. February 10  Learn how to create a one-of-a-kind Viking knit bracelet embellished with beads, at the Dorchester Center for the Arts. Students will learn the ancient art of knitting wire without needles, using a few simple tools. No jewelry experience is required, and students will leave with a complete project. February 10  At noon, at the Academy Art Museum in Easton, Harry Cooper, Head of the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art at the National Gallery of Art will present a lecture, “Looking at Rothko.” The cost is $20 for Museum members and $30 for non-members and it includes a light lunch. February 11  The American Legion Auxiliary, Caroline Post 29, Denton, MD will be having a Valentine's Day dinner and dance. February 19  The Talbot Figure Skating Team is proud to host the second annual Talbot Classic ISI Competition at their home rink in Easton. The competition will be held from 8AM until 5PM.

 February 19  Freedom Rowers announced that its Third Annual Row-a-Thon will take place at the Easton YMCA from 1 pm – 4 pm.  The Row-a-Thon is a friendly competition between teams of four rowers who will row 2,000 meters, using the Y’s machines. Teams and individual rowers will be sponsored by community members to raise money to support the operational costs of the Freedom Rowers program.

February 20  The deadline is here to register for The Model Guild of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime in St. Michaels, weekend of model-building workshop in the museum’s Bay History building. The event will be from 6 to 9pm Friday, February 24 and 9 to 5pm Saturday and Sunday, February 25 and 26. Led step-by-step by skilled modelers, participants will create a 10-inch wooden rowing skiff with lapped side planking and a flat bottom. The workshop is $80 for members and $95 for non-members. February 20  In recognition of President’s Day, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, is offering free admission to its 18-acre waterfront campus and 12 exhibit buildings. The museum features an authentic working boat yard, a floating fleet of historic vessels, the 1879 Hooper Strait Lighthouse, and many hands-on exhibits. The museum is open 10 AM to 4 PM seven days a week, with admission regularly at $13 adults, $10 seniors, $6 kids 6-17 and free admission for kids five and under.

February 25  It’s the biggest one day show on the shore; The Dorchester County MSSA Fishing, Hunting, Boating Flea Market, starting at 8 AM at American Legion Post #91 at the foot of the Rt 50 bridge. There is a $3 admission fee, (12 and younger are free). This flea market will not feature firearms. For more info, call: 443-225-5545.

 February 25  The South Caroline Mustangs will host a Womanless Beauty Pageant at 7PM, at the Federalsburg VFW Post 5246. Its open to those 21 yrs of age and older. Doors open at 6PM and cost is $10 per person. There will be door prizes, a Silent Auction, food and a cash bar.

 February 25  Trappe United Methodist Church will host a Country Church Breakfast, from 7AM until 10AM. The down home, all-you-can-eat menu includes eggs, pancakes, French toast, warm syrup, grits, home-fried potatoes, sausage (nitrate free and fresh ground by Simmons Center Market in Cambridge), scrapple, sausage gravy, biscuits, strawberry preserves, coffee, tea, orange juice, and tomato juice. (no price given; just show up hungry).

 February 25  You can help those stricken with ALS, (Lou Gehrig’s disease) by attending the United We Dance to Cure ALS Zumbathon charity event, a dance fitness party.  ALS is a serious neurological disease that causes muscle weakness, disability and eventually death.  Bring a friend, dance, have a great time and move to make a difference for those who can’t. The dance is from 10:00 am – 12:30 pm, at Colonel Richardson High School, Federalsburg. Tickets $ 25 in advance $35 at the door.

February 25  Registration for Dorchester Lacrosse will be held at the Dorchester Family YMCA, from 9 AM to Noon. All kids are encouraged to sign up either in person or online at www.dlax.org.

 Saturday – Sunday

 February 25-26  It’s the National Outdoor Show; A real slice of Dorchester culture! Little Miss and Mister Outdoors 2012. Evening contests, oyster shucking, muskrat, raccoon and nutria skinning, pole skinning and log sawing. Vendors, food and exhibits. Doors open 10:30 A.M. and pageant begins at 11:30 A.M. Admission fee is $6 for adults, $3 children 4-12 years under 4 free. The event is located at South Dorchester Pre-K-8 school, 3485 Golden Hill Road, Church Creek.

 Sunday

February 26  The East New Market Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting a Chicken and Dumpling Dinner, from Noon until 5PM. Side dishes include green beans, apple sauce and corn bread. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for Kids 6-12, and those under 6 eat for free.

February 26  The Blue and White Ball Annual Auction & Benefit will be from  6 PM - 11 PM. at the Talbot Country Club, Country Club Road, Easton. Cocktail buffet, libations and live music. It’s all to benefit Saints Peter and Paul School. Admission charge $75. Cocktail Attire is required.

 February 26  Come on down and enjoy our delicious and Our Famous All-U-Can-Eat Oyster & Chicken Dinner, at the Hoopers Island Fire Company, located at 2756 Hoopers Island Road, Fishing Creek. The time is 11 A.M. till 4:00 P.M.  The price is adults $17.00 and children under 12- $7.00. Along with oysters and chicken there will be lots of sides.  Carryouts available.  Fresh made desserts additional cost.

February 26  A Crawfish Boil & Muskrat Stew Fest will be held in Cannery Way park in downtown Cambridge. The outdoor festival features live Cajun blues music by the Washington, D.C.-based Jimmy Cole & the Delinquent Crawdaddies; traditional Louisiana and Eastern Shore food items will be available. The event starts at noon.

February 26  The Chesapeake Film Festival will be holding its first Oscar Benefit Gala with charitable partner Talbot Hospice Foundation. The event will stream the 84th Academy Awards pre-show and awards. Local hors d'oeuvres, wine, and dessert will be served, and an emcee will auction off items during commercial breaks to benefit the CFF and Talbot Hospice. February 28  Learn  Intermediate Pottery Wheel work in clay, with  Instructor:  Paul Aspell. Session 2 starts today and runs until April 3. December 15 through April 2  Somerset County Tourism announces that its Visitors Center at 1003 West Main Street in Crisfield will close for the winter effective Thursday, December 15th.  The Center will reopen on Monday, April 2nd, 2012.  Any traveling or tourism needs will be handled at the Visitors Center, 11440 Ocean Highway in Princess Anne.  This center will be open year round, 7 days a week from 9 am to 5 pm.  Call 410-651-2968 for more information.

Dorchester County Public Schools are implementing a fraud, waste and abuse telephone and E-mail Hotline to provide citizens and employees notification in instances of fraud, waste or abuse related to the operations of the school system.  Reports of concerns may be made confidentially by calling 410-901-6958 or E-mail: reportwaste@dcpsmd.org.  The school system will fully investigate all concerns to assure proper use of school system resources.  All inquiries will be kept confidential.
