John Harris’ life is pretty much an open book. Over the last 19 years as host of The Morning Mischief Radio Show, John has revealed a good deal about himself on the air. Born under the sign of Pieces (he’s so damn sensitive, can’t you tell??) in New York, sometime in the latter part of the 20th century, John grew up listening to legendary disc jockeys like Jay Thomas, and Dan Ingram, and as early as 6th grade decided he could do what they did for a living. He graduated from New York University, and while there was one of the hosts of the popular “New Afternoon Show” on WNYU (the University’s campus radio station that could be heard throughout the New York metropolitan area). John’s favorite part of working at the college radio station was getting into New York nightclubs for free!
Despite the rumors of a sordid past in New York, John relocated to Maryland’s Eastern Shore so that he could be on the radio in a full time capacity. John started at WCEM in 1986, hosting mid days, then mornings, on WCEM-AM when it was a country music station (and yes, he took the job with absolutely zero knowledge of country music, but grew to enjoy it immensely, and still has a “thing” for Kathy Mattea!). He moved over to WCEM-FM in 1987, to handle afternoons until the morning shift opened up in February 1989.
When he’s not on the radio, John enjoys seeing as much of the country as possible, citing Chicago, Las Vegas, Carolina Beach and Key West as his favorite destinations. He also tries to catch his favorite NFL teams “on the road” (John follows the Jets and Ravens). John also enjoys cooking on the grill, and watching “24”.
As for his longevity at the station, John says “It’s still fun after all these years, no two days are ever the same, and when it stops being fun, I will stop doing it"!
