Dated Events

January 15 – 19 March  The DorchesterCenter for the Arts will be offering Stained Glass for Beginners and Intermediates.  Instructed by local favorite Jan Boettger, students will learn basic or intermediate techniques for creating a stained glass panel. Instruction includes design, cutting, foiling and soldering. The class meets on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and will run for 10 weeks. Fees are $125 for DCA members; $165 for non-members, and a supply fee is payable to the instructor ranging from $75 – $125.

 

Now – February 1  Register for the St. Patrick’s Soccer Tournament. The division play runs from February 22nd thru March 17th. There are four tournament periods, with several boys, girls and adult divisions. Cost is $375.00 per team. For full details, call: 410—250-0125.

 

Now – February 10  The Art of Seating, organized by The Museum of Contemporary Art, Jacksonville and the Jacobsen Collection of American Art, presents a survey of exceptional American chair design from the early 19th century to the present day, at the Academy Art Museum of Easton. Each of the approximately 40 chairs in the exhibition are chosen for their beauty and historical context. Admission is $3 for non-members, children under 12 admitted free. The exhibition runs now until February 10th.

 

January 2 – March 6  Trampoline Class teaches campers ages 8 & up basic intermediate jumps, stopping skills, and countless other important foundation skills and features an Olympic size trampoline, double-mini trampoline, and a 30’ tumble track.  There will be a 20 minute orientation prior to the start of the first day.  Camp will be held at Chesapeake Gymnastics in Easton on Wednesdays January 2-March 6 from 5:30 – 6:30 PM.  Cost is $69.

 

January 4 – February 28  To kick off the New Year of art exhibitions,The Talbot County Visual Arts Centeris sponsoring the art exhibit “Monday Afternoon Painters” which will go on display January 4th and will run through the end of February at the Church Alley Gallery, 32-34 S. Washington St., Easton.

 

January 8 – February 12  Session 1: Brushing Up in Oils, with Instructor Matthew Hillier, runs now thru February 12, each Tuesday, from 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM. at the Academy Art Museum, in Easton. Cost: $190 Museum members, $220 Non-members (per session). This course is designed to help students with their studio paint­ing techniques with an emphasis on editing, composi­tion, application, and build-up of paint, color and tonal values. January 9 – February 13  The Academy Art Museum, in Easton, will begin “Still Life and Landscape in Pastel”, with instructor Katie Cassidy, meeting now thru February 13, from  9:45 AM – 1 PM, each Wednesday. Cost is $195 Museum members, (per session), $215 Non-members (per session). This class will go right to the heart of the fundamentals of pastel painting including under-painting using pastel, watercolor, and oil washes. January 10 – February 14  The Academy Art Museum in Easton, will offer: Portrait Drawing, with  instructor Raphael Sassi  now thru February 14, from 10 AM -1 PM each Thursday. January 13 – February 17  The Academy Art Museum is offering: Fundamentals of Digital Photography, with instructor George Holzer, now thru February 17. The sessions will be from  12:30 – 3:00 PM on Sundays. The cost is $140 Museum members, $180 Non-members. This class is designed for digital beginners or those making the switch from film cameras to digital. Both novice and somewhat experienced digital camera users are welcome to take part.  The Life Crisis Center in Salisbury provides support services to victims of domestic violence, rape, and sexual assault.  Victims can find housing at the shelter for 84 days where they receive counseling, legal services, and job placement and training services.  The Life Crisis hotline is 410-749-HELP.

Starting in July, the Worcester County Health Dept. will be holding free smoking cessation group classes in various locations throughout the County.  Teachers will help smokers to become tobacco free thru a step by step program.  Smoking cessation aids are also available thru a voucher program.  For dates and times and to register, call the health dept. at 410-632-0056.

January 31  The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, MD will continue its series: “This Old Chesapeake House”. Author and photographer Shirley Hampton Hunt will explore the process of writing and photographing images for her book, The Vanishing Landscapes, which documents the history and collapse of abandoned houses on the Eastern Shore, their relationship to a changing environment. February 1 -2  Bad kids living on the edge, blind dates gone wrong, and death decides to drop by. These wacky scenarios come to life on stage thanks to the North Caroline High School Drama Club. The plays will be presented at the North Caroline High School auditorium, you’ll have a night you will never forget at the mere cost of $4 for students, and $5 for adults (For tickets purchased prior to show night).  The plays begin at 7:30 pm.

February 2  Explore the rich and unique native plant habitat of Adkins Arboretum. The plant habitats you’ll see include mature and young native forests, meadows, a wetland, as well as a rain garden and a pollinator garden. The tour will be from 10AM until Noon. February 2  Motor Vehicle Crashes are the Number One Cause of Death for Young Adults ages 16 – 24. The Alive at 25 Program- A Behavior based Agenda that persuades attendees to take responsibility for their behavior and adopt safe practices. This course meets MVA requirements for those under the age of 25 who are required to attend a Driver Improvement Course.
